The Fortune in Affiliate Programs

Do you ever recommend a product or service to someone that you really like? Do you get paid for making that recommendation? What if I were to tell you that you can make an enormous amount of money passively just by recommending products on the web that are produced by others. This is called an affiliate program. If you are a website owner, you can become an affiliate for one or more products. You can earn up to 50% of the purchase price just by including their ad on your website or e-zine. They provide you with banner ads and/or classified ads which you can use for promotional purposes. Those ads are encrypted with a special link that contains your affiliate ID and tracks that sale to you. Every time someone clicks on a link or banner posted by you and goes to that website and buys, you get paid.

Be Selective About the Affiliate Programs you Join

What I have learned through the years is that there are good and bad products out there. I’ve also learned that the fastest way to lose someone’s trust is to recommend a product or service that does not perform as it should. With one single exception, I will never recommend something that I don’t use myself. Let me explain. On occasion, I have had tremendous benefit using a product from a reputable company that I hold in high regard. That same company produces another product that I don’t personally need but recognize how it will add value to other people/businesses I know. In that case, I will recommend it to them. If I am an affiliate for that company’s product or service and I make that recommendation (through a link in my e-zine, website or email) and it results in a sale, I get paid. It’s such a no-brainer and so easy!

I only include affiliate programs on my website and e-zine that are relevant to my target market. Since I provide marketing and web development services to businesses, my affiliate programs are related to products and services that are business related. There are websites out there whose only purpose is to make money through affiliate programs. I am not a believer in that. But at the same time, if you can make some residual income through these methods and add value by endorsing reputable products and services, why not do that? The more you promote affiliate products and services, the more money you make. I call the money that I make from affiliate programs my play money. I use to indulge myself with fine dining, spa visits and other extras that I ordinarily don’t do for myself. It’s really fun to go the mailbox, find these checks and plan how to spend them!

The REAL MONEY is in your Own Affiliate Program!

Through your affiliate program, you are leveraging your sales by getting many others to sell for you. Let’s say you had 100 affiliates and each one sold on average, 10 of your products every month. That is 1,000 total sales per month by your affiliates. If your product retails for $50 and you paid the affiliate half, you are still making $25,000 a month! Now that wouldn’t happen immediately but it is reasonable to expect those kinds of results and better with your own affiliate program. And unlike expensive advertising that sometimes doesn’t produce a single sale, you only pay your affiliates when an actual sale is made. What would you pay to have a system like this in place that would generate a minimum of $25,000 a month?

An affiliate program can be added to almost any eCommerce website regardless of whether it involves the sale of products or services. You will see affiliate programs on major eCommerce sites and websites that sell software. Information products are generally a perfect fit for affiliate programs. These include eBooks, CD sets with workbooks that offer training on a particular topic and seminars that are often packaged with books, tapes and/or CDs. The decision to add an affiliate program should be based on adequate profit margins for paying an attractive affiliate fee and whether the site can support a high volume of sales.

Whether you have your own business or a job, if you have to work in order to make money, you are trading your time for dollars. Having your own affiliate program allows you to make money when you’re sleeping, taking a tour of the world, golfing, fishing, enjoying your family and anything else you would rather be doing. Whatever that is, it truly means freedom to be happy and live the life you really want.

Once you have your own affiliate program, it will work automatically like a machine that cranks out more and more money for you. After it is set up, it will take an ongoing commitment from you to market it so that it will grow into a highly profitable venture. Remember that your success is all about the marketing.
