Website verses Blog: Do You Need Both?
Exploring some of the differences between blogs and websites will help you to decide if you need a website and a blog.
All of the following apply to websites:
- Slow to be indexed by search engines.
- Most have a limited ability to accomodate newsworthy information and trends.
- Most do not integrate web 2.0 that allows for interaction with a market.
- Page rank and associated traffic from new domains is limited.
- Navigation and link structure is conducive to finding content that establishes credibility, educates and produces conversions.
- Accomodates all types of secure eCommerce integration.
All of the following are true of blogs:
- Content added is rapidly indexed by search engines which can accelerate traffic. This is particularly true of WordPress blog platforms.
- Are ideal for newsworthy info and trends.
- Include basic web 2.0 integration for interacting with a market.
- Navigation and link structure are less conducive to providing stable content that establishes credibility, educates and produces conversions.
- Most blog open source software does not offer secure eCommerce payment processing.
If you have an established website that has good authority and website traffic and does not need a secure payment gateway for eCommerce, you may want to convert that website into a custom blog that integrates stable pages and forms.
